This ancient black ceramic reveals its full expressive power through a deeply textured surface, carved with pronounced grooves that highlight its authentic character. Its tactile finish is the defining feature of this new furnishing piece, distinguished by its fluid silhouette and an organically shaped rim that appears to move in a graceful bow.
The term bucchero derives from the Portuguese bucáro, meaning “fragrant earth”. In Italy, however, it has become synonymous with the exquisite black ceramics unearthed during excavations of Etruscan necropolises.
The Etruscans made extensive use of this distinctive black pottery to create everyday objects of remarkable elegance, celebrated for their lustrous surfaces, refined forms and exceptional craftsmanship.
Inspired by the ancient Etruscan bucchero tradition, the black firing technique is an almost alchemical process in which each piece is fired in a reducing atmosphere, without oxygen. This method produces the distinctive deep black finish that powerfully reveals the true essence of the ceramic-making process. Driven by a spirit of contemporary experimentation, this traditional technique is reinterpreted through innovative production methods and original forms, creating unique pieces defined by the unmistakable all-black aesthetic of bucchero.
