In Florence, the cradle of art and Renaissance architecture, a new and exclusive collaboration with a major national company is underway for the restyling of the prestigious Westin Excelsior Florence, involving the supply and installation of continuous marble surfaces.

Nestled along the banks of the Arno, SE•STO is the exclusive rooftop bar of the Westin Excelsior, inheriting the charm of two historic hospitality establishments in Florence: Hotel De la Ville and Albergo Italia. On the sixth floor, the doors of SE•STO open to reveal a refined restaurant-bar with the added bonus of a spectacular view of Florence.

Terrazzo flooring with a mosaic border

For the flooring of SE•STO, a continuous surface without joints has been created, specifically Venetian terrazzo with low-thickness marble aggregates from Concrete Solution (Sibextreme style). This meticulous work, executed with extreme precision by MA Superfici, involved manually pouring mineral products and marble aggregates of various sizes to achieve a custom surface that will be polished and smoothed later. The final result is a one-of-a-kind flooring.

Venetian terrazzo is a solution with a traditional flair, synonymous with the universal beauty that marble has always represented. Thanks to its extreme customization, it is reinterpreted to give a distinct identity to the spaces, utilizing precious materials—aggregates and stones—blended with originality.

Among the selected marbles are:

  • Bianco di Carrara: iridescent marble with black and grey veining, exclusively sourced from the Apuan Alps. It is one of the most cherished materials by artists and architects throughout history, used to create some of the world’s most famous works. It adds a prestigious and refined touch to any space, embodying the universal beauty that marble has always represented.
  • Giallo Siena: characterized by a dark yellow background with the presence of ivory white, light yellow, ochre, and intense reddish veining, it is extracted from Italian quarries and has been used for prestigious projects since ancient times.

Continuous surfaces in architectural projects

These surfaces are sought after as ideal solutions for hotels, restaurants, commercial offices, shops, and showrooms due to their wear resistance and minimal thickness. The strengths are:

  • High foot traffic capability, thanks to its high mechanical resistance
  • Reduced thicknesses, ranging from 3 to 30 mm, based on functional and aesthetic requirements
  • Complete customization, from the base colour to materials such as marble, granite, terracotta, and glass
  • The final result is sleek and contemporary surfaces with a uniform appearance
