Marble and continuous surfaces for the restyling of Palazzo Goldoni in Rome, balancing tradition and modern design

The art of treasuring the past to shape the future. A Motto that has guided the restyling of Palazzo Goldoni Condotti Collection in the heart of Rome. The exclusive private residence offers luxurious suites overlooking Largo Goldoni, in the heart of the luxury shopping district between Via Condotti and Piazza di Spagna. Krei collaborated on this project as a partner for the research, selection, and supply of materials.
Various materials, such as continuous surface, marbles, and quartzites were used, managing technical tests and customized samples. A completely custom-made project in line with the building’s historical character, now shining once again with touches of modern design.

The exclusive residence stands on the site where the historic convent of the Trinitari Castigliani Spagnoli, known as “Calzati”, once stood, dating back to the 18th century.
A distinctive feature is the location, overlooking one of the most famous Roman streets in the world, the ancient Via Trinitatis, now Via Condotti, a cradle of luxury and international chic shopping. The name Palazzo Goldoni references the famous Venetian playwright Carlo Goldoni, who lived there for a year. A place designed to capture the charm of history and architectural elements from the past, welcoming a discerning clientele in spaces of timeless elegance, both today and in the past. Thanks to a careful restoration, the building’s historical character has been preserved in harmony with modern touches.

The goal of the entire renovation and exhibition project was inspired by the building’s historical significance. Architectural features were preserved, and some of the original materials were restored, such as the decorated coffered ceilings and the 18th-century wooden beams. The spaces thus preserve the atmosphere connected to the rich history of the Tridente district, in the heart of Rome. The heritage of original finishes and the classical style of the historic palace is enhanced by new elements of contemporary furniture and design, transforming the palace into a residence with modern comforts.

Continuous surfaces for floorings and wall coverings

The 18 rooms, including 10 suites, offer the epitome of Roman elegance, providing the dream of a unique stay in the capital. As you step into the spaces, the 18th-century decorated coffered ceilings interact with the continuous surface flooring in a deep black tone, free of joints and with a textured effect.

Sought after as ideal solutions for hotels, restaurants, commercial offices, stores, and showrooms due to their wear resistance and minimal thickness. The strengths of continuous surfaces can be summarized as follows:

  • High foot traffic, thanks to the high mechanical resistance
  • Reduced thicknesses, ranging from 3 to 30 mm, according to functional and aesthetic needs
  • Total customization, from the base colour to materials such as marble, granite, terracotta, and glass
  • The final result is sober and contemporary surfaces with a uniform appearance.

For the flooring of the Palazzo Goldoni spaces, the continuous surface used is specifically the low-thickness Sib Hardcrete by Concrete Solution.
The same material, with its tactile appeal in total black, is also used as a finish for the base of the freestanding elliptical bathtubs in the suites.

The modern and ultra-contemporary touch is a striking element in the architecture of the spaces, highlighting the design of the bathtubs, freely inspired by the Barcaccia, the famous fountain by Bernini in the nearby Piazza di Spagna.

Patagonia Quartzite Counters

The natural design of the Patagonia slab, a quartzite originating from Brazil, is of exceptional elegance, offering a visual blend of white, beige, and brown hues interlaced with golden veins and sections of translucent grey quartz. In the Palazzo Goldoni project, the majestic Patagonia counters were crafted from single blocks processed by Fratelli Marmo, an esteemed company in Montefiascone, where the slabs were selected, cut, and assembled. A standout feature is the backlighting integrated into the desks: thanks to the combination of white quartz and beige granite-like feldspar, Patagonia is a backlight granite that gains even more emphasis when paired with the total black continuous surface cladding, which harmonizes with the same material used for the flooring in shades of grey.

Each Patagonia slab is unique and unrepeatable due to its dual nature, offering flowing veins like a work of art created by nature. Its distinctive coloration adds an artistic touch with a strong aesthetic impact, ‘decorating’ the space with the refinement of natural stone.

Custom-Made tables in Avocado Green Quartzite

Amid sophisticated Italian handcrafted furniture and original stone fireplaces, the custom-made tables designed specifically for Palazzo Goldoni by Krei and Progetto Nudo stand out.

The spectacular element is provided by Avocado Green Quartzite, a natural stone highly valued in architecture for its chameleon-like character. This rock, sourced from Brazil, is defined by large patches of green in varying shades, interspersed with delicate white quartz veins that create a three-dimensional texture. The deep, intense green gives the surfaces unique tactile effects, resembling works of art created by nature. Thanks to its incredible durability and heat resistance, quartzite is ideal for customizing workspaces, hotels, lounges, restaurants, and spa & wellness areas, bringing the charm of nature into interior design.
