“Motta Milano 1928”, Milan, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
An icon of the Milanese tradition “Motta Milano 1928”, the first historic bar considered the good living room of Milan located in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, in the corner of Piazza Duomo. A 150-year-old piece of Milanese history, with a new life: the address has in fact reopened its doors with a renewed aesthetic but well-rooted in its identity as the project by the COLLIDANIELARCHITETTO studio has highlighted.
A transversal vocation that of the place, cafeteria but also restaurant and cocktail bar, extended over an area of over three hundred square metres to which the external area is added.
Melchiore Bega designed the Motta Milano place in 1928. He was the greatest and renowned interior designer of the period who had focused on a classic style as Italian cafés should have been, but with the flicker of lots of wood and lights. Elements that are found in the new restyling project which includes materials ranging from metal to marble, from glass to wood. The Art Déco line has been preserved, making the atmosphere enveloping while respecting the identity of the place, where traditional materials are at the service of a contemporary interior.
Motta Milano 1928 is a location of excellence for which we have collaborated in the project of the architect Daniela Colli, taking care of the selection and creation of the polychrome marble works.
Among these, the flooring stands out, characterized by a dynamic geometry with a decomposed herringbone so-called “Hungarian herringbone” using polychrome marble: green, grey, black and veined white Carrara. Mirrors and glass on the walls, in a play of reflections, restore the beauty of the Gallery by linking Motta Milano 1928 to its city.
