Bucchero is ancient handcraft

Black Bucchero is a type of ceramic produced in Etruria, a region of central Italy, during the Etruscan period (8th-3rd century BC). This ceramic is characterized by its black colour, resulting from the presence of manganese in the clay used for its production. Black Bucchero was very popular among the Etruscans and was used to produce vases, cups, plates, and other objects for daily life. It was also used as a funerary material and has been found in many Etruscan tombs. Black Bucchero was produced using a high-temperature firing process, which resulted in a very strong and durable ceramic. The firing was carried out in special kilns, called “Etruscan kilns”, which could reach temperatures of up to 1,000 degrees Celsius. The production technique was very sophisticated for the time, and the Etruscans were masters in its execution. They were able to create complex shapes and intricate decorations, using both wheel-throwing and press-moulding techniques. Black Bucchero had a significant influence on the art and craftsmanship of antiquity particularly in the Mediterranean region.
